The UK government has lent its backing to the Carer’s Leave Bill, which will create an annual unpaid leave entitlement of one week, at all companies, for employees with caring responsibilities. The entitlement will seek to help the 2 million Britons who currently have to care for a relative while working.
“Carers play a vital role in our society, and it is only right that we support them so they can balance their caring responsibilities with their working life,” says Dean Russell, who was business minister until last week’s reshuffle by new prime minister Rishi Sunak. “These reforms will not only better the lives of millions of unpaid carers across the UK, but also the friends and family that are dependent on their compassion every day,” he adds.
