The measures implemented on 6 April 2026 in the UK target two objectives: facilitating the recognition of union representativeness within companies and accelerating procedural timelines. Previously, if a request for union recognition was rejected by the employer, the union had to prove to the Central Arbitration Committee (CAC) that it had “majority support” from employees or had secured a majority of votes cast (representing more than 40% of eligible workers) during a secret ballot.
