In California the final employer of contract workers will now be liable to those workers to respect working time, pay their wages, and also compensation insurance cover, in addition to their existing responsibility to pay compensation for accidents at work. This new piece of legislation adds to an existing series of measures supporting workers (including the minimum wage, sick pay…).
This new law may well give Californian businesses that rely on contract workers quite a headache. The law aims to further support contract workers. Americans are closely watching as contract workers gain more muscle amongst the active labor force especially in flagship companies such as Amazon or Walmart.
