The White House has approved the report submitted on 07 February 2022 by the White House Task Force on Worker Organizing and Empowerment. The report contains 70 recommendations to facilitate the unionization of both public sector employees and employees of private companies under contract with the federal government. Notably, union representatives will be able to campaign and inform employees about their rights in federal establishments. When Federal State bodies provide grants and loans, they should preferably be for companies that welcome union bodies. Under no circumstances will these companies operating under contract with the Federal government be allowed to use government funds for anti-union campaigns. The task force plans to submit another study in six months’ time, which will report on the implementation of these new measures and potentially make further proposals. The task force, chaired by Vice President Kamala Harris, was established by executive order, and signed by President Joe Biden in April 2021, after the Protecting the Right to Organize Act (PRO), a bill geared to strengthening the right of workers to organize in a union to negotiate higher wages and better benefits, was blocked in the Senate.
