Workers in the steel and the cement industry expressed their contentment after the announcement of the nationalizations ordered by the government in these two sectors. Staff representatives at Cemex and Sidor, the two giants concerned by the nationalizations, are convinced that this process will lead to improved working conditions and increased wages. (Ref. 080317)
After announcing the nationalizations, President Hugo Chavez’s government ensured the concerned workers that their jobs were secure, negating their fears that the State was going to proceed to staff cutbacks. Cemex, leader in the cement industry in Mexico, employs 3.000 people in Venezuela.
