Eager to open a chain of grocery stores in the U.S., Amazon signed leases for more than 12 stores in Los Angeles. Amazon is buying spaces between 1,800 and 3,700 sq.m. within strip centres and open-air shopping centres. These are in dense suburban locations such as Woodland Hills (on N. Topanga Canyon Boulevard) and Studio City in L.A.

Other units are planned in the city of Irvine (Orange County), in Chicago and Philadelphia. Today, Amazon runs 18 bookstores, 16 “Amazon Go” and four “
