On November 26, 2024, Orange (sales 2023: €39.7 billion, selling in 26 countries) signed a multi-year agreement with OpenAI to access AI training models. From H1 2025, this will train LLMs from OpenAI, as well as Meta, Google and Mistral AI, with regional African languages. Priority will be given to Wolof and Pulaar languages, spoken by 22 million people in Western Africa.
