U.S. Towards an online sales tax?

In June 2018, the U.S. Supreme Court cancelled its 1992 ruling, which forced online retailers to collect sales tax only in the States where they had a physical presence. The court reversed itself and signed off on a South Dakota law forcing online retailers to collect a 4.5% sales tax on online purchases.

The amounts that are likely to be applied for online purchases would vary by state and local laws. It clears the way for a fairer environment where all retailers would compete under
