On Tuesday September 23, 2014 the three central unions will demonstrate together to voice their concerns over proposed reforms by the new federal coalition government, that itself is in the process of being set up. Several points worry the unions. In particular, cancelling one or two wage indexations, putting in place a minimum service during strike action, and obliging unemployed people work in community service. The federal negotiators, who have yet to state the primary measures, are not expected to form the new federal government before the end of September.
The three main unions; the General Federation of Belgian Labour (FGTB), the Confederation of Christian Trade Unions (CSC) and the General Confederation of Liberal Trade Unions of Belgium (CGSLB) have together called for a demonstration in Brussels on Tuesday September 23, 2014. “It is a question of showing our members’ anger and of mobilizing against the measures that are part of the future coalition government’s program”, stated the press agent for the union group. The demonstration comes at a moment where since the end of July 2014, four parties charged with forming a new coalition federal government* have started putting figures to the measures they are proposing.
