The news. First piloted in July 2022 across seven Chinese provinces and major municipalities, including Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangdong, and expanded in July 2025 to 17 additional regions, China’s work injury insurance scheme for self-employed platform workers—including food delivery riders, ride-hailing drivers, and couriers—was extended nationwide on 1 July 2026.
