Following the European Parliament’s vote in favour of the legislation on lorry drivers’ driving and resting time (Ref. 0693), the Council adopted, on 2 February 2006, by written procedure, the two texts which form the new regulation. (Ref. 06108)
Following the agreement obtained in the conciliation committee with the European Parliament, the Council adopted, on 2 February, by qualified majority (the French
delegation voted against the directive):
– a regulation establishing common rules on driving times, breaks and rest periods for professional drivers and requiring use in road transport vehicles of a digital tachograph to measure these times and repealing legislation 3820/85 (PE-CONS 3671/3/05, 5408/06 ADD 1), and
– a directive updating and repealing directive 88/599/CEE on checks on implentation of social legislation relating to road transport (PE-CONS 3672/2/05, 5406/06 ADD 1 +
ADD 2).
