When it started, on June 22nd, no one thought the Brønderslev embargo (12,000 inhabitants, administrative center of the Brønderslev town) would be the emblem of the first struggle against social dumping supported by the Dansk Byggeri employers’ organization. The blockade is affecting the restoration of a downtown building by a Polish company, AWD Spolka ZOO, whose Danish manager is denying unions’ request for a collective agreement to cover the Polish employees. According to the trade unions, the latter earn, in average, DKK 50 (€6.7) an hour, whereas Danish conventional pay for the same job is around DKK 160 (€21.4) an hour.
