During the restructuring forum in the automotive sector, the European Commission and the sector's professional and trade union organizations announced, on October 17, 2007, the launching of a European partnership for the anticipation of change. The automotive sector is the first one to go into an approach which the Commission would like to develop in other sectors but also to spread to different levels at the national scale. (Ref. 070865)
Concrete results of the European Commission’s initiative in terms of restructurings. The document was discussed as part of the preparation of the restructuring forum in the automotive sector which took place on October 17 and 18, 2007 in Brussels (see an upcoming article). “Until now, we were hitting with spotlights on some topics, and we needed to get out of the “one-shot” logic which was ruling”, explained Jean-Francois Lebrun, leader of the unit “working conditions, adaptation to change” at the European Commission’s DG Employment and Social Affairs. “In addition, after the different forums, it came out in a transversal way that it was necessary to gather the different stakeholders both to anticipate and to manage change”.
