Since the political agreements signed on June 9 by the EU social Ministers (see our dispatch No. 080482), the fate of the working time and temporary work directives was sealed, at least concerning their adoption process before the Council of Ministers. The joint positions on these texts were adopted without debates but not unanimously. Now, the drafts will be examined by the European Parliament. (Ref. 080696)
On September 15, the Council of Ministers in charge of General Affairs adopted the joint positions on the draft revision of the 1993 directive on working time and the draft directive on temporary work. This formal adoption, after the political agreement (see our dispatch No. 080482), is necessary to enable the continuation of the legislative process and, if necessary, the second reading at the European Parliament.
