To tackle the “unfair division of parental responsibilities” and keep mothers closer to the labor market, a bill was introduced in the Council of Ministers yesterday, July 3. It extends the duration of parental leave benefits if both parents successively reduce or stop their activity to take care of their child. (Ref. 130447)
Reforming parental leave. Currently, women account for 97 percent of parental leaves taken. In order to encourage men to do it more, the bill adopted yesterday by the Council of Ministers extends – under conditions that have yet to be determined – the benefits known as the optional supplement for free choice of activity (complément de libre choix d’activité, CLCA) when both parents reduce or stop their activity to take care of their child.
