Tens of thousands of Job Centre Plus employees went on strike in the UK on 2 May, to protest against a plan to reduce costs and cut jobs. Up to 30000 employees could be affected. (Ref. 06431)

The minister for Employment and Pensions recently announced a financial rationalization plan which includes the shedding of 30 000 jobs in Jobcentres. 15000 jobs have already been. According to the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS), 80 000 members of the union who work for the national employment service went on strike Tuesday to protest against this plan.
