Starting January 2020, all new parents working for Standard Life Aberdeen (regardless of gender and including those having recourse to adoption and/or surrogacy) will, from the moment of hire, have the right to 40 weeks of parental leave on full pay. This landmark policy is one of the most generous in the U.K.
In total some 200 affected staff will be able to take 52 weeks leave as intended by UK law. However they will also be able to benefit from 40 of those weeks at full pay. This is vastly superior to what is intended by the legislation, which is in fact 6 weeks at 90% of average weekly salary and then 33 weeks paid at the lower of £148.68 per week (€172.43) or 90% of weekly salary. Furthermore, new parents at the UK insurer will be able to take up their leave in up to three separate blocks...
