EU/EWC Directive revision. During the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) annual conference on EWCs (focused this year on the digital era), a representative of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Employment announced that the report on implementing the recast Directive 2009/38 on EWCs would not be published before the spring of 2017. The directive intends for this report and it is the preparatory stage for a reflection on the need or not for yet another revision of the EU regulation.
France/Examination of the draft law on multinational companies’ due diligence requirements.
In the course of its second reading examination on 13 October, France’s Senate adopted a text altering the initial requirement for French multinational companies to formulate a plan that aims to anticipate human rights and environment violations at their foreign subsidiaries as well as along their sub-contracting chains to now being an obligation to report on reasonable due diligence measures being undertaken to avoid ‘risks of violating human rights and fundamental freedoms” as well as risks to the environment resulting from their business activities and those of the companies under their control.
