Norway: new pay system for cargo carriers

On June 11, NHO Transport (Norwegian transport firms) and Norges Lastebileier-Forbund (the Norwegian Haulers' Association) on the one hand and the Transportarbeiderforbund (Transport Workers) and Yrkestrafikkforbundet (Union of Transport Company Employees) unions on the other signed an agreement. The parties rejoice with this groundbreaking agreement which introduces a new pay system distinguishing between "productive" and "passive" working hours and officially introduces conventional minimum wage. New pay system. Until now, drivers were paid for the kilometers they drove and by a global rate. The agreement signed provides for a new pay system which will come into force on September 1, 2012.
