Almost three years after the Rana Plaza tragedy, Irish clothing brand Primark and the UK government are joining forces to try and improve the lot of textile workers, especially female workers in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, India, Myanmar, and Pakistan.
On 06 January, the low cost Irish clothing chain Primark announced the start of a partnership with the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID). In a press statement Primark stated the aim of the partnership is to improve the health and wellbeing of local workers, bolster national economic development, and help alleviate poverty in five of Primark’s key markets: Bangladesh, Ethiopia, India, Myanmar, and Pakistan.
