Russia: the government is battling harder against a problem of drugs and alcohol at work

As part of the fight against addiction the government introduced legislative measures in July 2015 that allow employers to layoff employees either because they have been found guilty of the illegal consumption of drugs and psychotropic or psychoactive substances, or because they have refused to be tested for these substances.

New rules… In July 2015, Russian President Vladimir Putin enacted a law that introduces mandatory drugs testing for all employees in the transportation sector as well as all employees obliged to carry a firearm. The law applies to foreigners working in Russia without a visa, primarily being those from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) who require a special work ‘patent’.
