The Basque nationalist unions are up in arms. They are protesting a framework agreement on collective negotiations that was signed on 22 July by the regions employers’ confederation Confebask and both the CCOO and UGT union bodies, under the auspices of the Basque government (c.f. article No. 9788). Both central union organizations, the traditionally moderate ELA union and the LAB union, which is sympathetic to the independent left, refused to take a place at the negotiating table. Only representatives of the CCOO and UGT central bodies agreed to negotiate and sign.
Basque nationalist unions calling it an anti-union agreement Both the ELA and LAB have denounced that agreement as ‘anti-union’, which they argue weakens the social relationship framework and damages the work carried out by the unions in the region. Both unions have organized a series of mobilizations as well as calling for a demonstration on the 20 September in the Basque region.
