Catalan regional authorities established an action protocol against semicircular lipoatrophy. This phenomenon would affect at least 620 people in 28 companies, according to the labour counselor from the local authority, who underlines the fact that this is a small impairment, which is reversible and does not require a doctor's notice. The protocol will serve to enable prevention technicians and work doctors to react facing the foretold arrival of new cases. (Ref. 070642)
The first cases of semicircular lipoatrophy (SL,) characterized through the atrophy of adipose tissues on forearms and thighs, which would notably be caused by static electricity and too dry air in offices, were detected in February 2007, at the new headquarters of the savings banks La Caixa, and then at the headquarters of numerous large businesses in the region (Agbar, Gas Natural, the Sabadel bank, the emergency medical service…)
