Spain: women to down tools on 08 March

On March 8 the women of Spain will take part in the first national strike to combat wage inequality and gender violence.  In 2017 feminist associations called for a symbolic 30 minute work stoppage and this year  women they have called on all females to halt work for 24 hours and to abstain from all household chores in order to demonstrate that ‘if we stop, then the world stops too’. They are expecting a great deal of participation to the.  The CCOO and UGT unions have called for two-hour work stoppages to take place in support.

Spain’s majority unions, the CCOO and the UGT have in turn called for a two-hour work stoppage both in the morning and evening work sessions, while the CGT and CNT are calling for a full 24-hour stoppage. All unions are calling for support for the demonstration that are set to take place at the end of day across towns and cities up and down the country.
