The Swedish government will present in Spring 2008, a bill forbidding discrimination of workers because of their age, in order to fully comply with the European directive on equal treatment, for which the final implementation limit was set to December 2, 2006. (Ref. 070743)
The directive 2000/78/EC of November 27, 2000 “establishing a general framework for equal treatment in employment and occupation” is almost completely implemented into Swedish law, except for the disposals regarding age discrimination. Indeed, the directive, which was supposed to be implemented on December 2, 2003, planned an additional three-year implementing limit for its regulations concerning age and disability discrimination.
