The news. On 22 September, the UK government confirmed the introduction of up to two weeks of unpaid leave in the event of pregnancy loss before the 24th week, in its response to the open consultation held from 23 October 2025 to 15 January 2026. This new entitlement will also apply to partners, second biological parents, intended parents through surrogacy, and parents who have experienced an unsuccessful embryo transfer during IVF. The measure will come into force on 1 April 2027.
