On 18 March, UK prime minister Rishi Sunak unveiled measures designed to boost apprenticeships. To this end, the Conservative government has pledged to cover the full cost of training under-21s at small businesses from 1 April. It also plans to double the proportion of unused funds that employers liable for apprenticeship tax can give to other, generally smaller, businesses to help them take on apprentices. This will rise from 25% at present to 50%. The announcement was welcomed by Martin McTag
