The news. Since 1 July, new rules governing medical certificates (fit notes) have been piloted in four regions of England: the West Midlands, Cornwall, Lancashire, and South Cumbria. The UK government’s objective is to reduce workplace absenteeism by shifting from a system focused on “certifying absence” to a “support model” that helps employees remain in work or return to work more quickly.
