Finland: Wolt platform food delivery couriers recognised as employees (ruling)

In a decision dated 22 May 2025, Finland’s supreme administrative court ruled that the relationship between the meal delivery platform Wolt and the delivery couriers working for it met the criteria for an employment relationship. It thus overturned a decision by the appeals court, which had classified them as independant. However, the ruling states that Finland’s working hours law does not apply, therefore platform delivery couriers will not work full-time or according to predefined schedules,
