According to a study by Sopra Steria and Cluster17, accessed exclusively by mind Retail, Europeans shoppers are ready to entrust certain stages of shopping journeys to AI agents. But only if they retain a final purchasing decision and only in certain categories. How far are consumers willing to use AI? In which countries and categories do adoption rates exceed 50%? Here are the exclusive figures.

According to Sopra Steria’s study (8,400 people surveyed in February 2026 across 8 European countries), consumers’ willingness to use agentic commerce is not uniform between France, Germany, the UK, Spain, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands and Norway. Based on the following definition of agentic commerce -i.e. the use of an AI agent to compare products and make purchases potentially up to the final transaction – the study also reveals that some categories offer more opportunities than others.
