While e-commerce traffic is experiencing a significant decline, consulting firm STLAR is highlighting a shift in online shopping habits. According to an exclusive study conducted with Toluna – Harris Interactive, to which mind Retail has access, 15.5% of French people have used generative AI assistants to research a purchase. And their profile differs from that observed in the U.S.A.

According to Gartner, a 25% decline in search volumes is expected on traditional search engines by 2026, in favour of generative AI conversational search engines. Faced with customers reporting “drastic drops in traffic on their e-commerce sites,” according to STLAR’s C.E.O. Chloé Duteil, the consulting firm and Toluna (Harris Interactive) published a study in June 2025 covering 1,034 French respondents.
