On 22 October, the UK government announced the postponement of the coming into force of measures aimed at restricting "fire and rehire" and "redundancy and re-employment", provided for under the Employment Rights Act 2025. Their implementation has now been pushed back from January to March 2027. The executive has also launched a public consultation, open until 17 December 2026, on the revision of the code of practice.
Originally scheduled for January 2027, the coming into force of the provisions of the Employment Rights Act 2025 regulating the practices of “fire and rehire” and “redundancy and re-employment” will not take place until March 2027. The government announced the delay on 22 October, alongside the launch of a public consultation, open until 17 December 2026, on a draft revision of the code of practice, in order to adapt it to the new regulatory framework.
