On October 2, the government presented an “ambitious” draft reform of vocational education with the consent of LO and DA, which signed a joint opinion on the issue listing objectives to achieve the same day. The government wants to reach a political agreement on this reform before Christmas so it can come into force on August 1, 2015. Its primary goal is to make vocational education more appealing for young people, who are currently not showing much interest. (Ref. 130595)
“We want to create highly professionalized vocational schools with an appealing social environment, so they will become the first choice for a lot more young people than today,” explained Education Minister Christine Antinori, when she presented, on October 2, the government’s plan to reform vocational education. Based on the agreement reached by the social partners in May (see article No. 130381), it aims to ensure that at least 25 percent of young people will choose this form of education after primary school (folkeskole) by 2020, and 30 percent in 2025.
