The strategy for the 3 years to come of the 3F union, the biggest union in Denmark, which organizes workers in construction, manufacturing, transportation, the public sector and services, revolves around: fighting against social dumping, recruiting new members, improving the employment system and social protection. “We need to be constantly more capable, smarter and more educated because we can never compete on pay,” Per Christensen declared in his program speech after the union’s convention elected him as its new chair. He was approved by the 863 representatives gathered at the 3rd 3F convention on September 14-18, with the motto, “Unity produces rewards.” The new chairman has had a long union career: he was a union representative in Aalborg Portland, then a vice-president for the cement workers’ union (Cementarbejdernes Fagforening), and finally legal secretary at 3F, where he also sat in several committees (training and security among others).
