Whilst the merger between the two main Danish confederations, LO and FTF will be at the top of their respective agendas during their Autumn congress meetings, two unions under the LO umbrella: NNF (23,000 members) and Dansk Metal (108,000 members) have initiated talks for their merger to take effect as of January 2016. The aim is to strengthen union influence at both company and national level.
Will 2015 be an historic year for union mergers in Denmark? Whilst both of the country’s major confederations (LO and FTF) have their own merger on their agendas for their Autumn congress meetings (c.f. article No. 8580), another merger unthinkable even only one year ago between the agri-food union and the metalworkers union may see the light of day before the year is out.
