The omnibus directive has taken a step forward with the adoption of a common position by member states that would radically water down the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), notably by raising the threshold for its application from all companies with more than 1,000 employees to those with more than 5,000 employees. The European Parliament is expected to vote on the report in mid-October.
On 23 June, the Committee of Permanent Representatives reached an agreement on a negotiating mandate for the European Commission’s omnibus proposal while CSRD and CSDDD have already been postponed in April. This agreement, based on the fifth compromise text presented by the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU, was made possible by an agreement between the French and German leaders.
