The government of Finland has just unveiled its budget for 2020, which includes a jobs package aimed at facilitating the recruitment of skilled workers by companies. The measures were prepared by sub-groups of the tripartite working group for promoting employment (made up of government, employers and unions). The working group will continue to focus on this topic up until April 2020. The employment package represents a further €300 million when compared to the previous budget.
Like counterparts in other Nordic countries, Finnish companies are starting to suffer from a lack of manpower not only in areas that require specific expertise, but also in sectors less popular with Finnish employees. Some 76.3% of Finnish people aged between 20 and 64 are in work (compared to 71.8% in France), a proportion that has been steadily increasing in recent years, and companies are complaining about the shortage of staff able to fill vacant positions, despite an unemployment rate of just 6.8% (8.2% in France).
