On 24 October Germany’s Bundestag approved the law on modernizing occupational training (Berufsbildungsmodernisierungsgesetz-BBiG). The final text includes several amendments from the draft that the Council of Minister adopted in May 2019 (c.f. article No. 11130). The new law now institutes ‘minimum compensation’ for apprentices, introduces a new and clearer diploma nomenclature, and also inter alia, broadens part-time apprenticeship access. The law will come into force on 01 January 2020
The law on modernizing occupational training (Berufsbildungsmodernisierungsgesetz-BBiG that was finally approved on 24 October by Germany’s Bundestag was amended several times with pressure coming from both trade unions and a section of Federal parliamentarians representing several different political parties.
