Curenntly, 27 bills that are somewhat related to the employment legislation are somewhere in the British Parliament. Some of them have already passed the third reading, whereas others are just drafts. The bills which will get the royal seal in time, according to the procedure, will take effect on April 6. Indeed, since 2004, laws related to employment are promulgated twice a year: on April 6, which is the beginning of the fiscal year, and on October 1st, when the minimum wage is increased. (Réf. 0691)
The most advanced law –within this process- is certainly the Work and Family Bill, which is in its third reading. This text aims at better combining family life with professional life. One of the main measures is a longer paid maternity leave, from 6 months today, it will increase to 9 months and then 12 months (paid 106 Pounds per week, 154, 40 euros). Also, a paid paternity leave will be created, it will last 6 months (paid the same amount) and will allow the father to replace the mother after 6 months, to take care of a child.
