Great Britain: government measures to cope with the shortage of skilled workers in engineering construction

Talent shortage. In February 2009, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) asked Mark Gibson, former director general of this department, to draw a report on productivity and skills in construction. Presented in late November, the report points to the current talent shortage for supervisory staff and special trades, such as welders, city planners, project managers and engineering designers, and to the striking lack in craft workers by 2014.
