On 21 October the UK government announced it was backing the Protection from Redundancy (Pregnancy and Family Leave) Bill. Introduced as a private members bill by Labour MP Dan Jarvis, the bill aims to strengthen the protection for pregnant women and new parents from redundancy. Employers can currently, under certain conditions, terminate employment contracts of pregnant women and new parents returning to work, if the reason is not discriminatory and only those on maternity, adoption or parenta
