Several large Indian companies are trying to shift trends in the corporate world in favour of workplace equality. There are more and more examples of diversity and inclusion policies, for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people (LGBT), that have been put in place and the movement appears to have built up momentum since the decriminalisation of homosexuality in September 2018.
Keshav Suri, director of the hotels group Lalit, asks an effective question: “What is the cost of homophobia?”. Mr Suri is one the few public figures in India to be openly gay and his group has been a pioneer in the area of diversity. Speaking in the hall of the Lalit Hotel in New Delhi, on top of which a rainbow flag flies proudly, he underlined that he represents the corporate world: “I’m not just a homosexual professional – I have a job, I run hotels.”
