Italy: H&M signs first company agreement

On 24 September, the Swedish clothing company’s Italian subsidiary that employs more than 5,000 staff across more than 150 H&M, Cos, and &Other Stories sales outlets signed an agreement with the Filcams-Cgil, Fisasacat-Cisl, and Uiltucs trade unions. Although the agreement does not include productivity related bonuses it does contain a series of measures aimed at improving work organization and achieving a better work-life balance, whilst also bolstering social dialogue.

After the 2017 restructuring program that saw several H&M outlets close, the Swedish subsidiary is turning a page in Italy by signing its first company agreement. Trade unions had been calling for ‘great attention to be paid to workers’ demands’, while the company needed more staff at the end of the working day and at weekends (in the larger towns and cities sales outlets are generally open on Sundays and public holidays).
