The 18th national congress of Fim, the metalworkers' trade union federation of Cisl, which took place in Lecce, 22-24 May with some 500 delegates in attendance, approved the merger with Femca, the energy, fashion and chemistry federation, to constitute a single federation for industry. Work and sustainable development are the priorities established by the congress to come out of the crisis. (Réf. 130356)
Re-elected as secretary general by the 18th national Congress of Fim-Cisl, which concluded in Lecce on 24th May, Giuseppe Farina established the guidelines for the next four years and painted the picture for the “new metalworkers’ trade union” in the 21st century.
Towards a single federation for industry. Following the restructuring process underway within Cisl, the congress approved the merger with Femca to create a single federation for industry, and set two years as the deadline for dissolution of Fim. The process is however conditional to the respect of various principles, among which:
- the political project for the new federation must emanate from unitary trade union relationship, industrial and agreement policy models;
- the new federation shall need to be articulated on industries so as to safeguard the specifics of each federation for a better representation of workers;
- valuing the human resources, experiences and skills existing within the two federations.
