On Friday 31 January, French cosmetics group L’Oréal announced the launch of a new employee human rights policy, with which the firm pledges that “every employee’s human rights must be respected, regardless of their job or location”. The policy complements the group’s existing global human rights policy, launched in 2017, and addresses the emerging topic of the living wage and contains a paragraph on employee freedom of expression.
Living wage. In the press release announcing the policy, L’Oréal underlines that “a particular focus of the policy is on securing a living wage for all L’Oréal employees worldwide, in partnership with the Fair Wage Network”. As the policy outlines, the firm commits to ensuring “all employees receive at least the minimum wage required by local law or by applicable bargaining agreement and that they are paid a living wage covering their basic needs and calculated in line with best practices”.
