The government envisaged to lift, as of 1 January 2007, the current restrictions on the immigration of Eastern European workers. This opening was recommended by the Council for income and work (RWI), a government agency, for the sectors facing labor shortages, such as agriculture, breeding and slaughter-houses, metallurgy, engineering and data processing.
