Directive 2006/42 of 17 May 2006 relating to machines and modifying directive 95/16/EC was published in the Official Journal of the European Communities (OJEU) This text states the safety requirements which the manufacturers must respect. The aim is to guarantee a high level of safety for workers while ensuring freedom of movement of machines in the Union. (Réf. 06587)
The objective of the text is to reduce “the social cost due to the significant number of accidents caused directly by the use of machines by integrating safety” into the design and the construction of machines, and via correct installation and maintenance “. The directive forces the member States member “to ensure, on their territory, the health and safety of people, in particular workers (…) with respect to the risks linked to the use of machines”.
