It was a text of socialist inspiration perpetuating the guidelines of the previous Code which dated back to 1972 and was based on French social law. Since 2003, it has been amended 12 times, notably to add Community provisions, but maintained its socialist course.
- Why did the government choose an in-depth review of this document?
CG. With this reform, the current government (democrat-liberal, center right) had three objectives: make the employment market more flexible, create job and contain illegal labor. The idea and the first draft of the new Code apparently came from an initiative by the Romanian-American Chamber of Commerce and the Association of Foreign Investors in Romania, on top of which came the World Bank, which asked Romania to find solutions for greater flexibility.
