On 28 November, the Spanish government approved by decree a new paid leave entitlement of up to four days for climate-related risks. It will allow workers to take time off work if they are unable to travel to their place of work in the event of official warnings of extreme weather conditions.

The aim of the text adopted by the government is to avoid travel during phenomena that could endanger lives, as was the case during the tragic floods that hit Valencia just a month ago. As Spanish labour minister Yolanda Diaz explained, the law is inspired by similar measures in force in Canada. This paid leave allowance will be extended until the circumstances that caused the natural disaster no longer exist.
