This global framework agreement signed on November 10 marks the third with Japanese businesses, the first two being in the service sector. However this third agreement is signed with Japan’s biggest company AEON that employs 420,000. In signing the agreement the company commits to upholding basic social rights in those countries where it operates. From UNI Global’s perspective this agreement serves as a standard for the Asian region.
A Japanese company expanding throughout Asia. AEON is a leading retail company based in Japan. The company’s strategy to expand throughout Asia makes the cross border aspect of the agreement all the more significant. AEON already operates in 13 countries and aims to be the number 1 retailer in Asia. It has recently strengthened its presence in Vietnam, and in India it has put a team in place tasked with setting up partnerships so as the facilitate AEON’s entry into what is soon to be the world’s third largest retail market.
